The BCMC currently has a tenure from the provincial government, which gives the club permission to construct a cabin at Watersprite Lake.

The following topo map image shows the location the lake (courtesy of Gerry K)

Dave Scanlon and myself skied to the lake on a beautiful but cold bluebird day on Friday January 11. Travel time to the lake was about 4 hours at a very leisurely pace. There were spectacular views of Garibaldi and Mamquam along the way. Snow depth was consistently 2m around the proposed cabin site and more than 3m at the north end of the lake. There are several ski mountaineering objectives and lots of potential for turns on the slopes around the lake. This site would make a nice weekend destination for skiers and snowshoers.

There is currently a run of river hydro project being constructed in Skookum Creek; therefore access to this area currently requires coordination with the construction company due heavy traffic from rock trucks, etc. Contact Dave for access information. Stay tuned to the club trip schedule for trips to this area later this winter.

Hi Jeff,

I take the construction project is keeping Mamquam Main and Skookum FSR plowed this winter. Can you confirm? Were you able to drive to the junction at 2500 feet elevation?

Yes, the contractor confirmed that the roads will be plowed this winter. We were able to drive to the site weather station, which is at around 3,000 ft.
