The snow was quite decent compared tot he area that I have been in the last few weeks, but of course with the low snow pack this season, rocks were sticking out here and there. We had a few good turns despite not able to go the summit.

Nice TR. I think we saw you guys parking, when we abandoned our plan to get up Caspar Creek based on Alder reports. We ended up skiing in the steep creek area instead. The snow above ~1800m was actually surprisingly good all weekend, especially on north facing slopes. Reports of this winter's death have been greatly exaggerated.
Above 1800m, is not that the summit of Steep Creek ? :)

Mike,
You were the two vehicles that pulled over and drove away. I knew it was you. Where did you turn around?on the logging road? I was there in October and it was heavily overgrown. The high road to Caspar was beyond overgrown. It was difficult going through alder tunnel.
I'm embarrassed to say that we turned around at the parking lot for Caspar Creek. Everything I'd read online combined with the low snow pack was enough to scare us away, and Steep Creek is a sweet option. Does anyone know what kind of permissions from the government it might take to begin the work of clearing the logging road this summer?

None. Just do it. They don't care about anyone clearing logging roads.
