To cliffhang or to not cliffhang

Hey folks,

So I am moving at the Olympic Village, very close to our favourite (and only?) climbing gym. I don't rock climb, but I mountaineer (alpine-ice climbing prospects if I keep doing it), ski, snowboard etc. I have tried indoor climbing 2-3 times, somewhat fun, not thrilled to be indoors, but looking for some winter fitness and I wanted to ask for opinions about this sport as a rainy evening activity. It is expensive..... And if not the climbing gym, any other suggestions?

Thanks

Konstantinos

I think it helps to keep climbers in shape for outdoor climbing :-)

There's also the Hive a few doors down if you fancy some bouldering rather than ropes, Cliffhanger can be a bit of a zoo during the rainy season. Alternatives for roped climbing include The Edge in north van and Base 5 near braid skytrain in Coquitlam (best rope gym of the three, IMO).

How about dry tooling during rainy days and and ice climbing during cold ones :)

Thank you gents,

Paul: indeed, although I wish I had time to climb, on top of a million more amazing things one can do outside in BC!

Ryl: I've checked out the Hive too (even more expensive despite the reduced gear haha). Is that less busy? Sounds like some post-work-stress-relief fun. I don't intend on taking up bouldering though, this is more for fitness, Vancouver style. It's nice how they have combined yoga deals.

Bala: You and Cliff have to take me ice climbing this season!
