Hey !
Me and my buddy are planning a trip up to Panorama ridge next week.
We were wondering whether we need snow shoes?
Ice axe?
Thanks !
I've been up there a few times in winter but not recently. I hike as far as I can then switch to snowshoes when the snow is too deep to walk in. I've never taken a mountaineering axe... I find hiking poles with snow-baskets work well enough. It's only steep just before the first summit and hiking poles worked fine for me every time. Paul O :-)
Yes the slope angle is at most 30-35 degrees so there should be no need for an ice axe in typical winter conditions. Snow shoes or skis are almost certainly a must this time of year.
