New Furry Creek gate

There appears to be a new locked gate at the start of Britannia FSR.  Does the BCMC have a key to this gate (or the lower Furry Creek gate by the golf course) to access the Mountain Lake Hut?

It is a substantial gate with a lock mechanism of a type I've never seen before. I'm hoping Dave Scanlon can contact the forest service again to get a key. According to a report on CT there were multiple incidents of idiots shooting the strain gauges in Jane Basin that are monitoring the pending collapse of the mountain into Britannia Creek along the tension crack, as reported earlier by Frank Baumann.

As of yesterday the club has a key for that gate. As mentioned, there have been ongoing vandalism over the years in both the Furry Creek and Brittania watersheds. I've noticed that in the last few years the workign companies have started having 24 hour security on site. Things are that bad.  There is also a fear of someone dying in one of the many still open mine shafts. There are drops in some; shafts that go straight down; that one could with insufficient lighting not see.

I now have the key and live in south Surrey. I do want someone in a more central location to take this over.
To get this key the Brittania Mines manager asked for certain conditions. They are.

#1: Club members only.

#2; Sanctioned club trips only. { must be on the schedule ]

#3: A #50 cash deposit to get the key.

#4:  The person getting the key will also have to sign for it.

It was also said that we are to only go into the Furry Creek watershed. If a group was to be found in the Brittania side, the key would be confiscated.

Is there still a second gate higher up after Furry Creek FSR branches off from Britannia FSR?  Or will that old gate be left open?

I just emailed Blair Mitten who has the tool cache in West Van. He is very central to the activities. I will let you know what he says about managing the key for the club.
