Hey Folks,
I was just up at Mt. Garbaldi this past weekend. The North East Face is in great shape. The bergshrund is starting to open, but we took the skis off and booted straight up with no problems. If you're a confident skiier you could summit with skis on. I suspect it will be in good shape for a couple of weeks (2 weeks) as well, depending on how hot the weather is. We did the Brohm Ridge approach and the road is starting to get melted out.
If you mean the gate by the snowmobile hut then definitly not. We put our skis on 5km up the road.... The road is melting out fairly quickly, so in another week you could probably drive up another km or so. We took the North spur of the road, but I hear the South spur is a better option, because you can drive further up it.
FWIW, the north spur is Brohm River FSR and the south is Cheekye FSR (forest service road).
We did the the same trip today with Dean. Snow line at 1100m. We drove to 1000m, and only had to carry
skis for 10 min (quite disappointing).
Shrung has opened significantly since last week and some crevasses have started to appear on the
upper glacier. We climbed climbers right. No way you can go straight up unless you can fly!
