Well, so goes another one day backcountry ski approach to an area not overrun by snowmobiles. Kiss 'goodbye' day ski touring trips to Frosty West Summit (and East up the trail) and Skyline Divide. I can't imagine the road being plowed for snowshoe or ski access at Lightning Lakes, so approach will be from the highway. 

This was the most benign commercial operation in a park, and what it did is allow middle class families enjoy downhill skiing at an affordable price. The operation also supported the extremely healthy sport of xc-skiing, especially the classic technique with its grooming. See the benefit of xc-skiing:

And forget WOP, Lost Lake or Cypress when it comes to finding interior snow to classic ski on.

Yes, that's too bad. We also enjoyed staying in the cabins as they allowed dogs. It was pretty obvious, though, that the operation didn't attract enough people to justify the costs.
