Howe Sound Crest Trail - Mt. Strachan

The resorts might be closed but there's still lots of snow on the local mountains. This morning Basia P and I did a quick loop up the Howe Sound Crest Trail to the west side of Mt. Strachan and up the gully to the col between the summit and the false summit at the top of the Sky Chair. The last 100m are most easily done as a bootpack. There's lots of evidence of recent small wet slides in the gully, and it's probably a good idea to make sure you get through that stretch before the afternoon.

In any event, that route was a bit more interesting that just skinning up the runs. When we left it was snowing hard all the way down to the lookout point on the road, and the snow on Strachan should be skiable for a while yet.

I've attached our GPS track.

Nice one Mike! It's no volcano, but way to take advantage of the "shoulder season".

FWIW. I've heard the gully you went up referred to as Christmas Gully. There was some discussion about it a few years back on ClubTread and I recall a North Shore Rescue member granting it "official" name status.
