And here I thought I was going to read some ice climbing tips and tricks such as how not to get hit by that ice block your partner just released!

Interesting, indeed.  I'm not much for icing (mainly, I don't like the cold) although I will "ice" a sunburn.  I discovered years ago that heat reduces swelling (and itchiness) from mosquito bites (sometimes I have a hyper reaction).  My physio recommended heat for my back following treatment as she believed it would do well for pain and stiffness and when I've done acupuncture, a hot soak was recommended.

Regarding the R in RICE, I understood Rest as "keep mobile but don't stress/strain/do further damage."  I knew a fellow who broke some vertebra and movement was recommended treatment/therapy.  Anytime he sat for a while, everything would seize.
