Skied Thar on Jan 1 with a few friends. Pretty good day, but again with relatively strong W-SW wind & gusts. Snow was quite variable, highly dependent on aspect. East ridge was pretty good skiing mostly with 5-10cm of fresh on reasonably supportive crust. Sunny periods resulted in significant pinwheeling.
Went up Needle the same to ski the bowl. Decent. Horrible uptrack in the forest (some spliboarders in front of us decided to walk part of it
as it was so steep, hard and slippery). Skied from the ridge in the bowl all the way down. Good coverage. 5-10cm of fresh snow on supportive
crest, quite wind blow closer to the ridge. Skiing down in the forest back to the car. Better than expected, due to a quite supportive crust too.
Heavyish snow though.
Skied Silverdaisy, Mt Kelly , Poland Lake in Manning. Thin coverage, hard crust, only decent snow above 1800m, to be avoided.
Skied the Flatiron on Sunday, and saw a few other BCMCers up there as well. Jan 2/3 storm snow seems well bonded to old layers, and made for some beautiful turns. A great day. Ditto to Alexi's comment on the skintrack up to Needle. It's pretty terrible.
