Trip Description

Early winter backcountry skiing behind Blackcomb Mountain.  We will approach Phalanx by taking the ski lifts up Blackcomb and starting from the stop of the Showcase T-Bar.  The trip will run only in reasonable snow and avi conditions, and provided that the Blackcomb alpine is open and the resort is selling backcountry lift tickets.  Please note that a backcountry ski ticket costs around $40.

Although it depends on our ascent route, there will most probably be some amount of glacier travel involved in the ascent.  The organizer will be ascending Mt. Taylor on the Saturday, and will be staying overnight in Whistler.

  • Participants must be a competent skier or boarder
  • Participants must have taken either the BCMC Intro to BC skiing course or the AST-1 Course
  • Participants must have a Probe, Beacon and Shovel and know how to use them.
