Mount Baker Summit via the Coleman/Deming Route
Saturday, July 30th - Meet at the heliotrope ridge trailhead 11am. Hike in to camp above the Hogsback near the glacier - possibility to go to a higher camp if everyone is up for it.
Sunday, July 31st - Alpine start and summit attempt weather permitting. Return to camp, option to head back to the parking lot and home that afternoon/evening or for a more liesurely time of it some of us might camp one more night and enjoy the alpine air and scenary.
Monday, August 1st (BC Day holiday) - For those staying the second evening return to the cars by noon and head home.
Skills: Please have basic mountaineering experience or have taken a basic mountaineering course. This is a fairly standard, non-technical route, but we will be using ropes for the glacier and you must be familiar with prussiks, basic rescue systems, ice axe and crampon use.
Gear: Ice axe/crampons/appropriate footwear, have your own overnight backpacking/camping gear, water filtration/sterilization system, layered all-weather clothing, good glacial sunglasses.
Once we know numbers we can talk about splitting up food and fuel for the stoves. We may also require additional dry glacier ropes depending on the number of participants.
