Trip Description

Canceled due to poor weather.

---------------

Week long ski traverse through Garibaldi Park.

A lot of logistical details are yet to be worked out.  The major ones are start and finish points.  It is possible to start on either end of the Spearhead Traverse and then ascend the headwaters of the Cheakamus River to the McBride Glacier.  Another possibility is to start from the Lillooet Lake side, which is a more complete traverse of the McBride Range but also adds a day in the forest and more of a transportation issue.  The finish could be either down the Garibaldi Lake Trail or across the Garibaldi Neve to Elfin Lakes and the Diamond Head entrance.

Eight days / seven nights are planned with an extra day for bad weather.

Required skills:

  • Strong skiing ability
  • Strong fitness
  • Prior ski touring experience on glaciers such as the Spearhead Traverse
  • AST-1 avalanche course or equivalent
  • Glacier travel and crevasse rescue training or experience

Required equipment:

  • Avalanche transceiver
  • Shovel
  • Probe
  • Harness and basic crevasse rescue gear

Minimum number of participants for this trip to go is 4; maximum is 8.

Please contact the organizer sooner rather than later to discuss your interest.
