To take part in this course, you need to be a BCMC member.
The AST-1 avalanche safety course is highly recommended for anyone who is planning to get out in the backcountry in the winter time. It will be offered by the Canada West Mountaineering School and will take place over the first weekend of February. There will be one group of 8 participants and we expect the course to fill up fast, so sign up soon!
The first day will be held at Mt Seymour (4h classroom theory + 4h field practice) and the second day will be in the Whistler/Blackcomb backcountry.
Special BCMC group price: $180 / person (HST included) + backcountry ski pass for the day at Whistler if you need one ($47.04) tax included. Passes for the day at Mt. Seymour will be provided.
Requirements for the course:
- Being an intermediate skier and have a good fitness level. (skis, splitboards or snowboard/snowshoes)
- Beacons, probes and shovels
You will need to bring your own gear. If you need to rent there are a couple of options, and feel free to contact me.
Send me an e-mail if you have any questions. Please, indicate if you need a backcountry pass for Whistler/Blackcomb or not, and if you have a car or need a ride!
I will be in contact with the participants regarding payment details and to set up carpooling arrangements to get to the course.
Your spot will be secure only once your payment for the course is received.
