Join me for a day trip up Mount Rohr. If the weather and visibility are good we will attempt to make the summit. Otherwise we will spend time yo-yo skiing on the ridges below the summit. Strong experienced skiiers can do a return ski trip to the summit of Mount Rohr in about 7 hours in reasonable conditions. I am welcoming skiers with limited experience (but still with reasonably strong endurance) on this trip, so I would like to have a 10-11 hour window for actual skiing. This will mean starting to ski at 7 am and finishing skiing at 5-6 pm (with headlamps at both ends). To make this happen, we will need to stay at a motel in Pemberton the evening before the trip.
The group size is restricted to 8. Eeveryone must have the standard safety gear (beacon, probe and shovel). Participants must have at least some experience with back country skiing, and be knowledgable about avalanche risks and rescue. Ideally, participants will have taken a formal training course on safety issues associated with back country skiing.
If the weather forecast is very poor, or if the avalanche risks are unacceptably high, then this trip will be postponed by one week. I hope you can join me. Rohr is easy to get there (no off-pavement driving) and it offers excellent skiing and views.
