We will fly into the Pebble Hut in Ash Pass and have three days to explore the surrounding peaks and glaciers before heading over to the North Creek Hut for a day of exploration and trailwork, followed by a bit of trail work on the hike out. Both huts are fully outfitted, so no need to carry tents, cooking gear or sleeping mats. Pebble has a sauna, shower and propane stove. Peaks in the area include FASP, Thiassi, Chadwick and Pebble. Food will be dropped at North Creek on the way in, so packs should be light throughout the trip. Once at North Creek, we will do some work on the trail up to Mt. Sugas and continue onto the peak. On the last day we will brush cut the trail out from North Creek. Participants will be encouraged to share in the brush-cutting experience or help carry equipment. The BCMC will pick up a portion of the helicopter costs in exchange for your labours keeping the cost of the trip down to $300 to cover the additional distance to Ash Pass. Most of the hiking will be off-trail or on glaciers. Participants should be prepared for some bush, steep sidehills, and glacier travel. Basic mountaineering skills and equipment (crampons, ice axe, harness and crevasse kit) will be needed, but there is room for beginners if you are unfamiliar with glacier travel. You should be reasonably fit (able to hike the Grind in 70 min.) and able to put in an 8-hour day carrying a backpack. We will be doing group cooking for breakfasts and lunches, so please let me know if you have any food issues.
