Who likes ice climbing! Dry tooling can be a great way to get back into shape for ice climbing season. As well, it is a fun activity on its own. The crag at Dennet Bluffs is an ideal place to top-rope and try dry tooling on relatively easy climbs. There is an easy walk-around to the top of the crag to set up top-ropes for those who do not want to lead. Shashi Shanbhag’s blog has a good description of the area: https://shashishanbhag.com/climb/dry-tooling-at-dennet-bluffs/ The trailhead is at Munro Lake trail head, Coquitlam, BC V3E 3H1: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PB9x2kXGxBgo1hNZ7
We will meet at the Munro Lake trail head at 9AM. I will be driving from Kitsilano, and can take a few passengers en route. Participants are expected to negotiate their own transport via the forum.
Participants are expected to bring their own equipment and have previous knowledge in top rope belaying. Fancy stuff like ice tools and crampons can be rented (I think) from Climb On and MEC. More ropes and anchors would be ideal. This is not a course, but if you are new to dry tooling, let us know!
It will likely rain, and the only reason I will cancel this trip is because of an atmospheric river and dangerous flooding. So, dress appropriately, and bring hot liquids! I may be able to wangle some tarps and a propane heater if the right people agree to join.
