Trip Description

This trip is suitable for people who are new to backcountry skiing.  Prior downhill or cross country skiing experience is mandatory.  Expert skiers are of course welcome as well, however the terrain is not good for snowboarding as there are many flat sections.  From the Whistler Olympic Park nordic centre we will ski up the long ridge between Madeley Creek and Callaghan Creek.  This ridge features gentle terrain, open meadows and excellent views in both directions, not unlike the Diamond Head area of Garibaldi Park.  There is some yoyo skiing terrain near the summit if time allows.

There are now user fees for backcountry skiers at Whistler Olympic Park of $10+HST per person.  We will be parking outside the gate but going up one of the XC trails, so the fees do apply.  If we start the day early they might not be open yet and would be unable to sell us any tickets.  Please come prepared with $11.20 in cash, exact change prefered.

This trip will be limited to 15 participants, with priority going to BCMC members.  At least half of the trip participants must have AST1 or equivalent avalanche trainning.  Everyone must have avalanche safety equipment including a beacon, shovel and probe.  Let's plan to meet at St. David's Church in West Vancouver at 6:00am so we can make full use of the day.

Trip is nearly full and is now limited to BCMC members only.
