Trip Description

Nepal Mera Peak (6476m) Spring 2026 April 1 – April 26 Mera Peak is the highest, and easiest trekking peak in Nepal. It is located just South of Mt Everest and offers stunning views of some of the highest peaks in the world, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and Lhotse. While relatively high, it is easily accessible over glacier and snow slopes, which rarely exceed 40 degrees. No special technical skills are required, although the basics of using an ice axe and crampons will be taught at the Mera base camp by our guides. Climbing Mera would be similar to climbing Mount Baker in May, but with a guide and fixed ropes on the steep sections. Our trip will begin in Kathmandu with a spectacular flight to the small airport at Tumlingtar in the Arun River valley. We start hiking in sub-tropical lowlands and slowly work our way up through remote villages with a diversity of ethnic groups. The spring season features hillsides ablaze with the colour of rhododendrons and magnolias, along with old-growth forests supporting rare orchids. We will approach Mera from the Hinku valley and exit over the Zatrwa La pass to Lukla at the end of the trip. For those who don’t wish to do the climb, this trip makes for a spectacular trek with magnificent views and less crowded trails.  The climb from Mera Base Camp takes two days return, for those who would prefer not to climb the peak, there is a lot to explore from Base Camp.  The itinerary is designed for proper acclimatization, and those with good physical fitness should have no problem, even without prior climbing experience. We will be using a local trekking company that has been in business for decades, and with which I have done a number of trips. The cost for the 23 days in Nepal is about $3000 Cnd (based on 8 participants), which includes hotels in Kathmandu, flights in Nepal, and food and lodging while on the trek, but not lunch and dinner while in Kathmandu. Flights to Nepal are about $2000 Cdn. At this point, I am gauging the general interest in the trip. Exact dates have yet to be determined, and may depend a bit on the group and when flights are available. If you are interested in finding out more about this trip, please sign up, and I can forward you a detailed itinerary, and we can arrange a get together in November.  Please go online and become familiar with the route and the climb.  Our itinerary will be similar to the one posted at : https://www.archaicnepal.com/arun-valley-to-mera-peak-climbing/
