This isn’t a course. It’s a casual refresher session for rock climbing rescue skills. No formal instruction planned. Everyone’s expected to pitch in, share knowledge and experience, and participate.
We’ll go over rescue techniques using scenarios you might encounter while multi-pitch climbing or rappelling. If there’s a specific skill or scenario you’d like to revisit or share, let me know in your question responses.
I’ll post suggested scenarios and reference materials in the planning forum so we can all come prepared.
Systems and skills we'll cover:
Escaping the belay
Hauling up a second
Lowering a second
Ascending a rope
Tandem rappel
Others as suggested by participants or for scenarios selected
Equipment:
Helmet
Harness
Rope
ATC and /or Gri Gri or similar
Locking carabiners
Non-locking biners
Slings
Cordelette
Prusik
First aid kit
Lunch, snacks, water
We’ll aim to finish up by 2:00 or 3:00 pm to give folks heading back to Vancouver a jump on the traffic out of Squamish. Folks are also welcome to stay and climb.
