Garfield is a traversing, single pitch trad route just outside of Furry Creek. It is graded 5.7, with a stiff couple of moves at the start, and a couple of meters of run out. Be warned: seconding this route can feel as stiff as leading it. It is an excellent climb to start the season right: just short enough to tag after work, and totally worthy of the commute.
Participants are expected to be comfortable climbing up to 5.8 crack and slab, and 5.8 trad leaders will be preferred. I am opening this to two teams providing a second person volunteers to lead. The climb involves many different techniques: some creepy crimpers at the start (bolted), a wild layback into a sketchy tight rope walk through nothingness, to the best 5.7 hand-to-fist crack in the valley. Finish with some 5.2 scrambling.
I have a vehicle sufficient to carry the four of us, along with gear. This route goes easily on a rack (with a couple of #5s).
We will meet at 4PM at St. David's church. Gear and logistics can be addressed in the forum. The trip is expected to take 2-3 hours.
