Mount Rohr is a 2423m high summit past Pemberton that offers stunning views. Although more commonly hiked during summer, going now offers the chance to enjoy the winter scenery before it disappears and the summer bugs arrive.

• Distance: approx 18km round trip
• Elevation gain: approx 1200m
• Difficulty: difficult (some steep sections on the approach to Rohr Lake and the summit), suitable for those with previous snowshoeing experience on similar hikes

Avalanche conditions

This route traverses and goes under avalanche terrain. AST-1 training and avalanche safety gear (transceiver, probe, shovel) are required for all participants. I will review the avalanche forecast on Saturday at 4pm and we might do another objective if conditions are unsafe.

4. Layered clothing: including a waterproof layer; expect lower temperatures at higher elevations
5. Water: at least 2 litres
