Trip Description

We all are getting after it, the stoke is high and the mountains call. But when things go sideways, do you know how to respond? Even if you do, when did you last practice?

This is a group outing with the objectives of:

  1. An enjoyable day of easy-to-moderate ski touring
  2. Avalanche rescue practice
  3. Casualty evacuation principles

This is NOT an instructional course. I am working on getting an WFR instructor to attend to share some basic principles of backcountry casualty management but the focus is knowledge sharing and skills practice.

You are expected to have:

  1. AST 1, or equivalent minimum
  2. Beacon, shovel and probe
  3. Fitness for a full day of touring

Advanced ski touring experience is not necessary. This will be in simple terrain, but you need to arrive with reliable gear and at least 10 days touring experience. You must be self sufficient with appropriate clothing for the weather.

While the plan is to head to the Coquihalla, Seymour or Red Heather are possibilities depending on the weather forecast. You must have reliable transportation or get a ride.
