Rainbow Lake via Hanging Lake is a moderate snowshoe route that offers stunning views of the alpine environment, including Rainbow Mountain and Gin Peak.

The hike starts at Whistler Olympic Park, which charges a parking fee for backcountry access ($20 + taxes). The first half of the hike is a steep grind through the forest before arriving at Hanging Lake where the views open up and only improve from there on.

• Difficulty: moderate, suitable for those new to snowshoeing if you are an experienced hiker.

• Time: 6:30am
• Location: St David's United Church.
• Carpooling fee: recommended $25 per person round trip. The parking fee will be split evenly.
• Driving notes: winter tires are required.

Avalanche Conditions

AST-1 and avalanche safety gear are optional for this trip as we will stay on low-angle terrain. In addition, I'll check the Avalanche forecast the night before. If there's a sudden change in the avalanche forecast, the trip might be canceled or switched to a different objective.
