This is not an avalanche course or an avalanche response simulation, but a chance to practice transceiver skills. How well do you know your beacon? Do you ever get confused by the lights, beeps, or display? When every second counts are you confident that you won't lose valuable time figuring out your beacon?
For any of you borrowing or renting beacons (or thinking of replacing one you own) you might get to try different models, depending on what people have.
The plan for the day is to skin up the backcountry access trail on Mt. Seymour past Brockton Point and then stop in a flat area for some practice. If the conditions are good, we will continue towards the first peak and stop for some more practice, maybe on more difficult terrain. Travel distances will be short and terrain easy to moderate.
Shovel, transceiver and probe are mandatory.
