BCMC Annual General Meeting & A Tale of Two Winters

The night will begin with the annual BCMC Annual General Meeting
followed by a talk from Brent Hillier, Outdoor Educator with Canada West Mountain School and Avalanche Practitioner with the Canadian Avalanche Association.
The purpose of the AGM includes:
- considering the report of the Board on its activities and decisions since the 2023 AGM
- receiving the financial statements for the previous fiscal year
- electing Directors for the 2024-2025 year
You must have been a member in good standing for at least one year to be eligible to vote. Please arrive early to register to vote.
A Tale of Two Winters:
The last two winters have been very unique, but certainly not unprecedented. It's important to remember that when it comes to understanding avalanches, we must learn from past experiences and recognize similar patterns in the future. 2022/23 was a winter that had many avalanche professionals on edge, and there was a number of fatal accidents in the heli-ski guiding world. While last winter’s El Nino provided fewer snowy, powder days than we might have liked, it’s avalanche dangers were still very much present. We’ll look at both of these winters in more detail, recognize and discuss red flags; and ultimately hope for a much different winter this year.
The Social will take place at the Vancouver ANZA Club main floor (corner of 8th Ave and Ontario) on Tuesday, November 12th. The entrance door will open at 7 pm and we will begin the evening at 7:30 PM with an Update from the Executive. Please note: you must be 19+ years old to attend and may be asked to sign-in at the door to ensure we don't exceed 117 people in the hall. Once at capacity we will be forced to turn attendees away. Feel free to grab a drink at the bar before the social starts.
