St. Davids Church in West Van at 6:00 am
Kick off your winter with an amazing week in a wonderful back country hut. We will fly in and out of the Pebble Creek cabin and spend the week backcountry skiing. The terrain offers a mix of tree runs, alpine bowls, and glacier runs. Skiers should be in good shape, have their AST 1 or better, and be able to handle all snow conditions from great powder to breakable crust and open meadows to tight trees. The terrain is large and diverse. This should not be your first ski trip, but there is plenty of terrain for all abilities. Plan on being out on the hills from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and skiing around 1500 m per day, with more or less depending on weather and conditions. The cabin is warm and cozy, and has a propane stove and oven and all the kitchen implements you might find in a well stocked kitchen in town. There are sleeping mats for eight, as well as a sauna and shower. Generally, the cabin is too warm, but it can cool off overnight to around freezing. If its -25 outside, it could drop to -5 inside by the morning. We will be doing group meals. Plan on cooking a dinner and breakfast for the whole group. Good food is important on those long winter nights, so plan on gourmet. Refrigeration is not an issue. Water is available from the nearby lake. The cost is $1200, although that could change based on the final helicopter bill, which will be shared. Flights are unpredictable at this time of the year, so be prepared to wait to get into the cabin, or to get out. Best not to schedule something critical for the day after the trip is supposed to finish. There are no refunds due to poor weather, ski conditions or avalanche forecasts. Refunds are only given if it is not possible to fly in.
