Trip Description

Let's climb the Tooth!

The Tooth is a highly popular alpine rock objective in the Cascades with a couple of routes that are quite enticing. The primary objective for this trip and an obvious choice for holiday Monday is the South Face (5.4, 4 pitches). This route is a common objective with mountaineering schools and is a great place for new alpine rock climbers to focus on systems and route finding. Another route that I am interested in is the Tooth Fairy (5.9, 6 pitches, sport) - I thought to aim for this route on Sunday, and hope to find someone with similar interest. Check out Mountain Project for the details, or Classic Cascade Climbs (I might have the last copy ever, so feel free to ask me for a scan).

My current proposition, which will evolve as the event gets a little closer, is to head out on Saturday morning, establish a camp, do a little tour of the area. Climb on Sunday and Monday, bright and early. Return Monday evening. The details will be hashed out within the group, and will depend on group expectations.

To join this trip: my preference is for participants that I know and have climbed with. You should be prepared to lead climb, and this should be made clear in your response to the screening questions. I will keep the group number small, and hopefully we will have two independent and self sufficient groups to make this happen. You should have experience in lead belaying and climbing low to mid-5th class rock with intermittent exposure. Perhaps you are only interested in the South Face: that's perfectly fine with me, but please make this clear in your response.

My experience: I have led a few alpine rock objectives, such as Blackcomb Peak (5.6), South Early Winter Spire (5.6) and the Camel (5.2). I can comfortably lead up to 5.9 on trad, and 10a on sport. My pace is moderate, but I can go all day. My background is largely in mountaineering (Mt. Victoria, Mt. Lefroy, Tantalus Traverse, North Ridge Tricouni, Huascaran, Baker...to name a few). I learned to rock climb in the Rockies, which is to say my crack climbing skills is moderate and still relatively new.

Gear, group management, timing will be discussed within the group. I am very open to a meet and greet climbing day somewhere local to suss each other out.
