The weather outside is...transitional. We are still in the depths of a shoulder season. This is my go-to for a pleasant shoulder season excursion, that can be done in any weather. Petgill Lake is a fairly popular outing with a secret-ish start at Murrin Lake. There are sections that are steep, with a single class 3 maneuver, but it is otherwise a lovely hike in second growth (?) forest. And there's a lake! To make it intriguing, I'll suggest a loop descent (involving a second class 3 maneuver). Alltrails has a thing: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/british-columbia/petgill-lake-trail
The trip will go forward, rain or shine. I will bring microspikes along with the usual essentials. Don't forget a headlight and a raincoat.
I am a moderate hiker at a slightly moderate pace, which means I tend to fall behind the more fit variety. But, I can go all day long, which is what this trip will likely require. I have many years of experience in alpine climbing, having cut my teeth in the Rockies with the ACC Calgary Section. (I've climbed Mt. Lefroy, Huber, Victoria, Alexandra, and even led the Silverhorn on Athabasca while brutally under the weather..to name a few classics of the area).
You are a moderately fit hiker, or better. You have some background in hiking, and access to all the required equipment. You might be new or a bit out of shape: no problemo. This trip will accommodate the slow and steady. Bring your good stories and delicious snacks. This trip will likely take about 5-6 hours, perhaps less, depending on how often we stop and enjoy the ambience.
Meet up at Murrin Park at 9AM. I will likely be camping somewhere along the Sea to Sky. Car pooling is encouraged to be discussed in the forum.
As mentioned, I will bring, along with the essentials: microspikes, warm clothing, a change of clothing, rain gear, waterproof light hiking boots. I have a Zoleo for emergency use and will try and track down the bear spray.
