Trip Description

Learn How to Cross Country Ski in beautiful Cascade mountains of Manning park.

If we get enough people we qualify for the group rate of $50 for trail pass, rentals and Lessons (+ transportation costs)
(This is a great deal! usually it costs $74 and other places will charge $113)
If you have your own gear you can qualify for the group rate for lessons and/or trail pass. This activity is cross posted with different clubs and organization to get the numbers.

This will be a whole day activity but there is a winter camping overnight add-on activity if you would like to join:
90 minute lesson are available in the morning or afternoon you have the rest of the day to explore the trails.

Most people bring lunch to eat by the fire in the warming huts but there are 2 restaurants on the resort. Night skiing is optional.

Bring:
Warm comfortable clothing, vegan food and snacks to share, (headlamp if you want to go night skiing), your happy self.

Coordination:
It is up the the participants to arrange their own transport. Please arrange with driver your contribution for gas and maintenance.
Please coordinate transportation and lessons using the sign-up sheet:

******Because Manning park has to book staff in advance for this event:
YOU MUST PAY IN ADVANCE BY Dec 11,2023 or you will be removed from the list. Payments will be collected by me via e-transfer, I will provide details in your  mailbox once your in the "registered" list. This is just because Manning park does not want to collect group bookings from individuals, there is no profit for the organizers however any remaining funds will be donated.

I have reserved the Lone Duck 2 group Camping site just for our group, it is a great place to learn winter camping. It has car access, there are winterized latrines, and it has a communal cooking shelter with a fire stove. You cannot sleep in the cooking shelter, you must sleep in your tent or car. Winter camping is a magical experience but you have to be prepared for being a bit cold a night. You must bring a positive attitude.

You will need:

  • a free standing tent

  • warm sleeping bag (at least -5C) some people will use 2 sleeping bags one inside the other.

  • a sleeping pad at least R3 insulation rating. Again you can use 2 summer sleeping pads but make sure at least one of them is closed cell (it doesn't squish down)

  • winter clothes (winter jacket, warm sleeping gear, warm dry socks)

  • stove and food, toiletries ....etc.

Itinerary:

This is an add on to the learn to cross country ski event. The campsite is on the trail so after or before your lesson you can park your car at the campsite. You can ski all day and arrive at the campsite at the end of the day.
We set up camp and cook meals, by the fire and head the bed.
The next morning is free time, several activity options: backcountry skiing up Fat Dog trail, snowshoeing around lightning lakes (Snowshoe rentals are available from Manning Park), downhill skiing, winter tubing or whatever you want. You may want to bring your bathing suit, for an extra $10 you can have access to the resorts swimming pool, hot tubs and sauna. This is a kid friendly event

Because we have reserved the group site for only our group the cost will be $15-20 depending on how many people will be joining us.
