The 2024 BCMC Winter Camp will be held at Pebble Creek. This is fly-in backcountry ski/snowshoe trip to the Pebble Creek Cabin. This trip is open to both Backcountry skiers and snowshoers.
The Location: Near Ash Pass (50.719420, -123.252793). There is fantastic skiing on the nearby ridges, peaks and glaciers. Runs are between 300m and 900m long, with a good mix of open alpine and subalpine tree skiing. Mt. Thassi, Ethelweard, and Pebble are long day trips from the cabin. Figure on between 1000-2000 M of skiing per day. There is a wide variety of terrain from short-gladed shots which ski well in poor weather to 1000 m runs on mellow glaciers or 1000 m 45 to 55 deg. couloirs on FASP peak. You might want to bring an ice axe to climb the last pitch on Pebble Peak, but generally, we won't ski/snowshoe with glacier gear as things are usually very well filled in by early January. Generally, this is challenging or complex avalanche terrain. The snowpack tends to be a bit dryer than the typical Sea to Sky or Duffy snowpack and, as such, is a bit more complex to fully understand.
Preference will be given to past participants of the 2022 or 2023 Winter Mentorship Program.
Cost: Flights in and out cost around $750, with 6 nights at the cabin being an additional $200 per person. The non-refundable deposit is $700, payable by September 30th. Food is extra.
Meals: Breakfast and dinner together as a group with one person taking on one breakfast and one dinner and you take care of your own lunches and snacks. Figure on a cost of around $150 for your two group meals and lunches/snacks.
The Cabin: The cabin has a sauna, wood stove, solar-powered lights, USB charging ports, a 4 burner propane range/oven, a blue tooth speaker, and a 1000W inverter. There are good sleeping mats at the cabin, and pillows, so just bring a fitted sheet and pillowcase along with your sleeping bag.
