Trip Description

 

This is a required practice for those who wish to climb Mount Matier ( https://bcmc.ca/m/events/view/1687818217 )

Minimum Requirements

- Grouse Grind time better than 65 minutes.

- Completed a formal mountaineering course.

- Climbed a similar climbing grade route in the past.

- Possess technical gear for climbing in pairs: steep snow, and glacier travel.

 There will be N rope teams each consisting of two climbers, where N = 1 or 2.

 

Agenda

Review the mountaineering skills required for the climb, including, in no particular order:

  • Fundamental alpine knots
  • The theory of fall factor and ultimate belay
  • Haul systems
  • Alpine belay systems
  • Belaying Technique : taking in and letting out the rope
  • Escaping belay
  • The art of Alpine Walk
  • Climbing steep snow: full and running belays, leading and following
  • Boot-axe and hip belays
  • Self-belay
  • SRENE principle
  • Anchors on snow and ice
  • Crevasse rescue protocol in teams of two.

 

Note: The trip will be canceled or rescheduled if the precipitation probability (pop) exceeds 30%.
