Ruth Mountain is described as an easier mountaineering objective in Mt Baker Park, with fabulous views. This is a great objective for anyone with some mountaineering experience who would like to build up more experience, without any steep or technical concerns. The route itself can be done in a day, and there is a campsite at the trailhead to allow for an earlier start in relative comfort. Participants should be familiar with crevasse rescue and glacier travel (I would be quite happy to set up a mid week practice session). This should not be your first foray on a glacier or overnight trip in snowy terrain. You should be willing and able to contribute to logistics and route finding. My pace is moderate, therefore this will be a moderately paced day. The weather will have to be bluebird, at least on Sunday, otherwise postponement or cancellation will be considered.
The current plan is to leave Saturday, and camp within the park (hopefully Hannegan Campground). The day will be spent exploring the area (Hannegan Pass? Will consider other options). Summit Sunday and out. I'm also open to leaving Friday night, or even Saturday night, which will be discussed with the group as the time grows closer. I will update this as I research the objective a bit more. Gear will be discussed, but participants are expected to bring crampons/ice axe/harness/crevasse rescue material, and be familiar with their use.
Meet up time will be 5AM at Guilford park and ride.
