The weather is expected to be clear in the Pemberton-and-beyond area this weekend and the beautiful NE facing line of Hearstrings is relatively protected and should remain stable.
Regardless, we'll keep an eye on weather and avi conditions through the week for safety.
The trip is approx 10 km in total and 1000m of vert. Down low it may be hard/icy, but conditions should be good for the line itself.
Note on difficulty: The trip may be closer to a B3, but officially the top is 38 degrees and ski/ride difficulty 3 is up to 35.
Trip description: From Joffre lake Trailhead, skin past Lower and Middle Joffre lakes. Then, climbing WNW through boulder field and trees, get to the ridge system starting at approx 2000m, and head N along ridge until the entrance, then ski/ride the line. Getting to the ridge may require bootpacking, depending on snowpack conditions. See attached sample gpx track for reference (we won't necessarily do laps as the sample track shows).
Must be able to ski/ride an ungroomed black diamond run in any conditions including tight trees.
Requirements: AST1 and a few trips under your belt this season; fit to do 1000 m of vert.
Logistics: Meet at St Davids at 5:30 AM, decide carpools there and then; otherwise, meet at Joffre Lakes parking at 8 AM (km 13 of Duffey Lake Road).
