Trip Description

Easy trip along the marked winter route (simple avalanche terrain) to snow camp around Brockton Point at Mt Seymour.  Open to snowshoers and skiers.

Intended as an approachable opportunity for anyone wanting to try out snow camping, test some new gear, or just spend a night in the snow. There will be ample time to build snow shelters, practice companion rescue skills, or get in a few turns if on skis. I will be on snowshoes and am hoping to build a snow cave.

We will depart Mt Seymour Lot P1 (overnight parking) around noon on Saturday March 4th. Hike out Sunday morning March 5th. Exact timing TBD by group. Logistics will be sorted out in the planning forum.

Conditions: We will monitor the weather forecast and avalanche conditions and make a final call about whether the trip will proceed a few days in advance. We can consider rescheduling or shifting to Red Heather / Falls Lake if conditions look better there.

Experience/Equipment: This trip is open to those trying winter camping for the first time, however, it will be important to make sure you have the appropriate gear. We can set-up a pre-trip call to review this depending on the experience of the group. AST-1 and avalanche safety gear (transceiver, shovel, probe) are required.

Permits: BC Parks passes (AM and PM) will be required for each car, so carpooling will be helpful. The Mt Seymour shuttle ($10) is an alternative should the passes become problematic. There are no backcountry camping fees.
