Trip Description

This promises to be an epic full traverse of the Spearhead starting at Blackcomb base 2 and ending in the village via the Whistler musical bumps and downhill area.

A number of firsts this time around:

  • Fully non-mechanized (no use of lifts)
  • Full traverse from Blackcomb to Whistler (no early Singing Pass trail exit)
  • Less skin transitions (down to 13 from 20)
  • Modified route around the south side of Decker

We have an earlier than usual start time due to the fact that the resort desires us to reach the base of 7th Heaven by 9:30. The plan is to leave base 2 at 7am.

This trip requires strong backcountry ski experience and a high level of fitness. We will be moving at a strong pace the entire day. You must be able to independently navigate in the mountains. I have posted a GPS track of our planned route.

Participants must bring backcountry ski gear, avi gear, and headlamps (w spare batteries). Ski crampons are a good idea at this time of year.

No one leaves until everyone is out.

Distance: 43 km Elevation Gain: 2500 m High Point: 2500 m Estimated Time: 13 hrs

AVI gear required. Will give preference to skiers that I know and have a proven speed and skiing ability. If you're interested in this trip and I don't know you then make sure to sign up for another one of my earlier season trips first.
