The Beverley Creek trail provides access to Puma Peak, Beverley Lake and Rainbow Mountain from Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley.  It's a relatively gentle trail that follows that valley bottom through natural meadows and stands of yellow cedar trees.  For this trip I plan to work on a section near the end of the trail that was rerouted with flagging tape several years ago, but never cleared.  To get there is a 3.5km hike, with the first 2km on the rainbow-madeley trail and then continuing along the Beverley Creek Trail for 1.5km.  The Beverley creek trail is cleared for skiing, not hiking, so this section is a light bushwhack through generally flat forested terrain where the predominant underbrush is blueberry and black huckleberry bushes.  I have not hiked this portion of the trail in summer conditions in several years, so I'm not certain exactly what we will find.

This trip is suitable for kids who can hike reasonably quickly in uneven terrain.  Bushwhacking experience is not necessary.  My own kids are 7 and 10, but you don't have to bring kids of your own to join this trip.  Useful tools to bring are 2 handed garden pruners, pruning saws, pole pruning saws and chainsaws (definitely not for the kids!)  Work gloves or gardening gloves are also highly recommended. I have some extra tools and gloves that I will bring along to lend out.

Puma is a fine 1900m ski peak east of Madeley Lake.  The ascent connects together a series of linked talus slope as you weave up the south ridge.  Descent back down the open route along the ridge, or drop down the north face and loop back around via the Beverley Creek Trail.  There are also good skiing options near the head of Beverley Creek, especially the NW facing slopes directly below Beverley Lake.
