St. Davids Church in West Van at 6:00 am
We will drive through Pemberton to the North Creek FSR, located at km 18 on the Lillooet FSR. From there we turn up the North Creek FSR, which is fine for an AWD car. It is about a 4 hr hike to the North Creek cabin which is supplied with sleeping mats and cooking and eating equipment as well as solar lights. Just bring your sleeping bag, food, and some Coleman liquid fuel for the stove. From the cabin, we will take the trail up to the Hurley/North Creek pass below Mt. Sessel and head for the easy scrambling peaks above the Pebble glacier and possibly drop down to look at the ice caves. Plan on doing a little flagging and clipping along the trail to improve the access. For a second-day trip from the cabin, we can go up towards Mt. Sugas or Mt. Sessel or put a bit more time in on the trails. A good portion of the hiking is cross-country in areas where there is no trail. You will need decent hiking boots and should be comfortable walking in meadows, scree, and boulder fields, but we will stay off the glaciers. Participants should bring bear spray.
