I've wanted to do this one for awhile, so why not a mellow/moderate paced hike this weekend while the weather seem nice and we should get some good views.
Hike stats: 16km, 990m elevation gain. Plan to take about 7 hours at a mellow pace.
More about the route here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/british-columbia/mount-thurston-via-elk-mountain
Meet at Shell Station- 6385 Vedder Road, Chilliwack- where we should still have phone reception and then proceed to trail head. Meet at 7:30, depart 7:45. (Meeting point can be agreed amongst participants depending where people are coming from.) I am coming from Maple Ridge and can take 3 with pickup MR/Mission/Abbotsford/Chilliwack.
It seems like there could still be some ice/snow between Elk and Thurston though this might be gone by the weekend. Microspikes may be a good idea along with appropriate footwear. It also looks like the weather may actually be quite hot and sunny (!) so definitely bring plenty of water, sunscreen and bug spray. And 10 essentials as usual.
