I'm putting this trip out there to gauge interest. I have done numerous trips to Nepal over the years and have led a number of large groups. You can google the "Everest three passes trek" to get an idea of what is involved. This is often rated one of the top ten treks in the world. It combines the spectacular scenery and unique culture of the Khumbu area with the challenge of three 5000 + m passes. While this is not a technically difficult trek, the combination of high altitude and snow and glacier-covered passes makes it one of the more challenging treks in the area. The plan would be to leave sometime in mid-October and return in mid-November. The trek itself is about three weeks long. Currently, a flight to Kathmandu from Vancouver is about $2000 and the cost of the trek would be about $3000. The trek would be guided and 12 kg of your luggage would be carried by porters for you, leaving you to enjoy the hike with a light pack. If we have eight to ten people express interest in the destination and dates then I would proceed to nail down the itinerary and cost. To join this trip you should be reasonably fit and used to hiking 6 to 8 hours a day. Many of the days will be shorter due to the time that is taken to acclimatize, but some of the days going over the passes will be longer. To join this trip you should be able to do the Grouse Grind or equivalent in around an hour or less. It's a great way to stay in shape for the ski season, see some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, and learn a bit about another culture.
