St. Davids Church in West Van at 6:00 am
We will fly into the Pebble Creek Hut from which we can climb the surrounding peaks including Pebble, Sears, Thiassi, FASP, or Icemaker. Then we will hike over the Pebble Glacier to the North Creek Cabin from which we could climb Mt. Sugas, Sessel, or Delilah. Objectives will depend on the skills and fitness of the group. This can be an easy mountaineering trip with modest peaks and straightforward glacier travel, or you can put in some long days and take on more serious mountaineering objectives. Accommodation for eight will be at the Pebble Creek and North Creek Huts. No need to bring a tent or camping equipment as both huts are outfitted with everything you need. Just bring your food and a sleeping bag along with your hiking and climbing gear. We will go over basic rope handling and crevasse rescue prior to this trip as there is extensive glacier travel. This is not meant to be a course but will be a great opportunity to review basic mountaineering skills. We will be traveling on glaciers and over recently deglaciated terrain with loose slopes and typically unstable scree. Sturdy boots, gaiters, crampons, ice axes, and basic mountaineering skills will be required. We will travel at a moderate pace and expect participants to be in reasonably good shape. The hike out from North Creek can be bushy depending on whether or not the trail has been brushed out. You should be able to do the Grind in about an hour or less and be comfortable hikinig where there is no trail. We will fly food for three days to the Pebble Creek cabin, and do an airdrop on the way in at the North Creek cabin where we will leave another three or four days' worth of food. When traveling between huts, your pack should be reasonably light as you just need to take your personal gear and a day's worth of food. The cost of the trip, including heli drop and hut fees is $650. While at the North Creek hut you can work off your hut fees with a little trail improvement while heading up to the peaks. The staging area for this trip will be the Pemberton airport and the landing at the end of the North Creek Road which requires some form of AWD to reach. We will aim to cook as a group for breakfasts and dinners. As there will likely be some snow around for keeping things cool, you can bring some perishables for the first cabin, and beer and wine for both.
To reserve your spot on this trip, please etransfer the trip fee to Brian Sheffield. In the event that the trip does not run all fees will be refunded. However, if you decide to drop the trip, your trip fee can only be refunded if a replacement for you can be found.
