St. Davids Church in West Van at 7:00 am
This will be a multi-day trail clearing trip staged from Lillooet Lake, about 40 minutes from Pemberton. Participants can come for the day, the weekend, or the full five days. If you can bring a chainsaw, or know how to use one, that would be great. If not there is lots of work for hand tools and alder tossing. Some of us will head up early on Thursday to get a drive-in camp set up in the popular Driftwood Bay recreation site on the shores of Lillooet Lake. This is about a 15 km drive on a good gravel road down Lillooet Lake that branches off from the Duffey Lake road, just as it begins to climb. Sites fill up quickly on the weekends in this spectacular spot. On Thursday and Friday, there will be lots of brush-cutting along the trail. Hopefully, on the weekend, a larger contingent of volunteers will be on hand to help toss the cuttings into the bush. The trail follows an old logging road for about 11 km. The old road has some old growth slide alder which makes the trail very wet in the summer and difficult to navigate in the winter. This will be a fun weekend of camping and putting some work into a very well-used trail in need of some maintenance. Participants can come for the day, the weekend, or for as long as they like. Lots of work to be done. Bring the whole family. Bring work gloves, loppers, chainsaws or brush cutters. If you are not coming up on Thursday, then we will just meet at the Driftwood Bay campsite.
