Date: Friday, January 14
Time: 6:30am
Location: Diamond Head Parking Lot or Chain Up Area
Anyone interested in a moderate skier-focused fitness day to Diamond Head?
Distance is 15.7km one way (31.4km return) with 1,500m of elevation. We'll be skinning up at a consistent pace for 8-9 hours.
Downhill skiing will be secondary to a "relaxing" marathon on skins. It's a great way to strengthen early season legs and prepare for what is sure to be a long ski season.
We'll definitely get some turns down Diamond Head and can ski virtually all the way from the summit to the car. Unfortunately, this trip is not recommended for split boards.
Bring a headlamp and extra batteries. Sunset is 4:30pm. We will likely be coming down in the dark.
Covid procedures should be followed. Each participant needs to get themselves to the chain up area. If needed, we can mask up and carpooling to the parking area.
4WD and tire chains are required on the Diamond Head access road (as per park rules).
And for the record, this is not a repeat trip. Last week's attempt did not get past the Quest University access road. The road was blocked by significant treefall during the ice storm. As a result, the trip went elsewhere.
