With a chill trip to Diamond Head on Saturday and WB opening the next week, I'm down for a big touring day.
On the trail before the sunrises at 07:32. Ski down as the sun sets at. Epic day in the middle.
Big day. Hike from the Cheakamus Lake Trailhead up the Helm Creek trail, skins go on when they go on. Head out towards Panorama Ridge.
Note that Avalanche Canada forecasts won't be available. Reports from mountainconditions.ca, group observations, and careful decision-making will be key. I'm hoping for some nice downhill skiing, but will prefer more of a traverse-style trip on low-angle terrain unless conditions line up. Expect to just do a variation on the Panorama Ridge hike on skis and some safer terrain unless conditions line up. Some info: https://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Black_Tusk_Meadows
Apres Plan A is Howe Sound Brew Pub.
AST1 and previous touring experience are mandatory.
Forecast suggests we'll get a rain crust with some snow (maybe 1/2 a metre) on top, and snow throughout the day. I'm going to keep this trip size small.
