Current plan is to start early (7:00 am) at Lions Bay and head toward Brunswick Mountain. 14.3 km and 1546m elevation gain. The trail should be well marked as its a pretty popular hike. Once we get to Brunswick Mountain we can decide if we want to take a direct route off the mountain towards Mount Hanover or backtrack to Howe Sound Crest trail and head to Brunswick lake and then head to Mount Hanover (the more likely option).
Mount Hanover is a hike that doesn't have a marked path to the summit. I have not done this route before. We will have to do some route finding. Everyone should install a GPS track of the route to Hanover from Brunswick and from Brunswick lake. The scramble to Hanover requires us to go up some loose rocks in gullies. Class 3 scrambling is what seems to be reported.
Bring your helmet for this one because of the loose rocks. I do not plan on using a rope + harness for this trip. Please bring your 10 essentials to the trip as well and enough water for 8-9 hours of hiking.
We will be hiking at a relatively fast pace as I would like to eat turkey in the evening (yummm!). Grouse grind time should be under 50min and you should be able to hike a long day with very minimal breaks. Small group for this trip to speed things up. I'm expecting to hit both peaks and head down in about 8 hours (hopefully less).
Parking is $24 for the day or you can park by the school further down. I usually park on a road in the neighborhood without parking signs a bit closer than the school. However, people have gotten tickets.
Directions: Magnesia Creek Trail, Unnamed Road, Lions Bay, BC. Be ready to start the hike at 7am at the trailhead. Not looking for parking at 7am.
