In August of 1909, four members of the BCMC set out to explore and climb around Loch Lomond, the headwaters of the Seymour Creek. They were Fred Perry, a master tailor, camp cook, and official geologist to the trip, William “Billy” Gray, a cigar-maker’s apprentice who was in charge of the surveying and mapping equipment, Charles “Chappy” Chapman, a printer, photographer and log keeper, and Charles “Old Mac” Macdonald, a ship’s carpenter, sign painter, and artist. Each carried a fifty-pound pack up to Loch Lomond over the remnants of the Burrard Lillooet Cattle Trail, encountering a surprising number of miners and trappers on the way. The four also packed a rifle, surveyor’s sticks and other mapping tools, cameras, and a pie that had been bestowed on them at the start of their trip by a lady friend.
