Trip Description

Presentation: “Attempting Mt. Halgurd in Iraqi Kurdistan’s Zagros Mountains: From Failure to Connection” by Malloff, Natasha

In March 2017, Natasha was part of a twelve member team including two guides who set out to climb Mount Halgurd - at 3,607m, it is the highest peak wholly in Iraq and is nestled in the Zagros mountain range of the Kurdistan Region.

Situated in deep history with the vibrancy of the Kurdish people and culture with the visible impacts of war, attempting to climb Mt. Halgurd and beyond was an unforgettable experience. Natasha will share her journey through photos, expedition highlights, and lessons learned.
