Meeting place: outside Climb-On in Squamish - leaving at 5:45pm sharp! (come early if you need to rent gear)

Itinerary

Friday night:

• Drive up the Shannon Creek FSR (4x4 with okay clearance required); approx. 40 minutes
• Start hiking in towards the Stadium Glacier (the goal is to camp at the base of the glacier)
• • Approx. 7km distance, 800 meter elevation gain; 2-3 hours
• Set up camp, snack, imbibe, hang food and sleep

Saturday:

• Revel in the sunrise - we want to get a relatively early start (so we beat the gondola crowds)
• Hike up stadium glacier (we should not need to rope up, but spikes / crampons and axe definitely needed for steep snow slope)
• Scramble to the summit (~400m elevation gain)
• Return to vehicles

Mandatory Gear: Helmet, Harness, Ice Axe, Micro Spikes or Crampons (these items can be rented at Climb-On - we will check gear before we leave)

Other things you will need:

• Good hiking boots (or mountaineering boots)
• Backcountry camping gear - tent/bivy, sleeping bag, stove, fuel
• Food
• Bear hang rope (we can probably share within the group)
• 10 essentials
• Water purification
• Leave no trace kit
• Funny jokes

I will bring (weight to be distributed in the group): 50m climbing rope, anchor material, well-stocked first aid kit, InReach, Bear Spray

Vehicles

A 4x4 vehicle with decent clearance (e.g., Subaru Forrester, Nissan Xterra or better) is needed to drive up the Shannon FSR. Let me know if you have a suitable vehicle and if you are willing to drive other people. We will work out spots for those that don't have a vehicle.

I guess it's also possible to upload on the Gondola before 5pm Friday night and meet us up there - to be discussed.
