Trip Description

Trip update: with the forecast for rain i didn't think anyone would be keen in sleeping in wet snow. Manning park is forecast for snow (it drops to just below zero). So I have booked the manning park lone duck 2 camp ground (google maps link https://goo.gl/maps/17oruexKouJ2UXqG6) meet 10am at the campsite. I have had to pay to book this so if anyone wants to contribute $ i would be grateful. It has a hut and a stove so if anyone has any wood to bring please let me know. The car park is next to camp site so you can throw in car some extra blankets/gear to keep in case you need them. This is a good practice camp site to try and get everything you would carry in a pack but have emergency spares in the car if you need. You can also bring your pack up Nordheim Peak if you want to practice hiking with the weight.

Please sign and bring a copy of the BCMC waiver with you (or e-mail to me ahead of time)

And please do the COVID self assessment and drop out of the trip if you have any COVID risk associated with you for this trip. The hut should be big enough for our small group to keep away from each other while we cook and eat, but please bring masks for if/when we sit around the fire.

We can leave our gear at the campsite then people can feel free to ski, snowshoe, etc. I am planning on heading up towards Nordheim Peak via Mt Kelly if anyone wants to join me (snow shoe or ski). I won’t go all the way on the out and back (its 20km total, will turn around at some point, group decision). It’s a low risk ridge line once you climb the first part to Mt Kelly with amazing views (weather dependent) or feel free to do your own thing and meet us back at camp site.

This is your chance to sleep in the snow.

This is not a guided or instructional trip, more an opportunity to practice and learn together, discuss our gear choices and experience over dinner and breakfast, and enjoy a night out. Feel free to email me with questions (or even better join the zoom on 31 March). I am definitely not an expert, but I have done this a few times and, even though I am usually a cold person, not only did I not die but actually kind of like it.

Due to Covid restrictions, everyone must be self-sufficient or own-household-sufficient and we can't share tents or cooking gear. Please bring your own tent, sleeping bag and mattress, stove + fuel, lunch, dinner, breakfast, and snacks. I have attached a suggested packing list to help you.

As per usual, beacon, probe, shovel, and 10 essentials required, as well as intermediate skiing ability (if skiing) and a sense of fun + adventure!
