Let's take advantage of the Low avalanche hazard forecast for all bands and no identified problems for south-facing slopes. July Mountain is reached by July Creek FSR, which is reportedly used by snowmobiles. The distance up the FSR to the summit via the SW ridge is about 10 km and the elevation gain approximately 1000 meters.
Suitable trip for advanced skiers although strong skiers who are advanced intermediate are okay. Fitness level must be reasonable but you don't need to be a marathon runner.
Headlamp required and spare batteries. Avalanche beacons, shovels required. Bring warm clothes. We may be coming out the logging road in failing light.
If people try to contact me, email is preferred. Don't send text messages. I don't receive them on my home phone. My cell number is 604 785-9848. It does receive text messages but I only turn it on sporadically during the trip meet up.
The meeting spot in Vancouver is the intersection of North Grandview and Penticton Street in East Van at 6:30 AM. Note that North Grandview is north of Grandview Highway across the railway and Skytrain tracks. If there's people coming from Coquitlam or points east, we'll meet at the Tim Horton's in Sardis at the intersection of Vedder Road with Luckakuck Way, opposite the street from the Husky station at 7:30 to 7:45 AM. Note: the Tim Horton's is closed but there is coffee available at the Shell station next door.
The parking is reached off Exit #238 (Juliet exit) on Highway 5. You must do a U turn at Juliet and head back south to Exit #231 (Mine Creek exit). See maps. We'll meet at the Mine Creek exit off the highway and figure out where to park.
